ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
“Their Daily Bread” is an exhibit honoring Women’s History Month. Four local artists address the role of women and domestic life in the historical Leonard House, former home of League of Women Voters activist Dorothy Judd.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS & THEIR WORK
Installations by artists Mandy Burrow, Anna Campbell, Margie Erlandson and Alynn Guerra span a variety of media and respond to the physical and historical properties of the house. Themes include the banality of household chores, as well as the role of women in political activism.

Campbell’s practice engages issues of gender, sexuality and heroism through video, sculpture and installation art. The sound and fiber works of Erlandson explore memory and the common ties found in all humanity. Guerra is a printmaker who creates bold black and white images with social content. And Burrow’s work addresses memory, the passage of time and gradual societal change through found objects and mundane routines.

Says Burrow, “The Leonard family had such an impact on Grand Rapids history. But as so much of the past revolves around the male domain of public life, we are choosing to focus upon the perspective of the women. We want to give voice to the under-recognized, to the forgotten, or to the ordinariness of domestic chores. In a way, we’re emphasizing the inglorious and honoring it.”

A FEW DETAILS
A weekend open house will be held March 26th, 27th, and 28th. The public is invited to tour the house, enjoy refreshments, and speak with the artists. Smaller works will also be on display and for sale. The event begins Friday night at 5:00 until 9:00 with a wine and cheese opening, Saturday 4:00 to 8:00, and Sunday noon to 4:00.
